Terms of service
Last updated
1.The agreement
These terms are the agreement between you and ByteMonk Academy for bytemonk.io and everything on it: the lessons, the practice tools, the tutor, the assessments and the community pages. Using the site means you accept them. If you do not, please do not use it.
They are written to be read. Where a sentence could be read two ways, the reading that matches what the site plainly does is the right one, and you can always ask us through the contact page.
2.Who may use it
You must be at least 16, or old enough where you live to agree to a service like this on your own, and able to enter into this agreement. If you are using ByteMonk through your employer or your university, you also need whatever permission they require.
3.Your account
Some material is open to anyone. Anything else needs an account, created with an email address and a password or by signing in with Google or GitHub. Give a real email address: it is how we reach you about your access and your payments.
An account is one person. Access is tied to the email address that bought it. Sharing an account, or your password, is not allowed, and an account being used by several people may be suspended. If you need several seats, ask through the contact page and we will set them up properly.
Keep your password to yourself and tell us if you think someone else has it. What happens under your account is your responsibility until you do.
4.Buying access
The pricing page is where the plans live: what each one opens, what it costs in your currency, and how long it lasts. Payment goes through Razorpay or Stripe; your payment details go to them, not to us. Prices shown include tax where we are required to charge it; your provider’s own fees, if any, are between you and them.
Three shapes, and a plan says on the card which one it is:
- Lifetime. One payment. Access does not expire and there is nothing to renew.
- A fixed period (for example a year). One payment, access for that many days from the purchase, and it does not auto-renew. When it ends, you buy again if you want to continue.
- Subscription. It renews automatically at the stated interval until you cancel. Cancel any time; you keep access to the end of the period you have paid for, and we do not charge you again.
“Lifetime” means the lifetime of the course on this site, not a promise about how long any of us live. If ByteMonk ever shuts down, section 10 says what we will do.
5.What your access includes
Everything published in the courses your plan covers, for as long as your access lasts — including anything we publish inside that window, at no extra cost. A lifetime purchase therefore includes everything that ever ships in its courses.
Courses grow and get reorganised. We may improve, restructure or retire individual pieces; what we will not do is take away the substance of a course you have paid for. A course listed as coming soon is a plan, not a promise with a date, and buying access today does not entitle you to a course we have not published.
The practice tools, the tutor and code execution cost us money per use, so they carry fair-use limits. We size them so that ordinary study never reaches them, and we will tell you when you are near one rather than cutting you off silently.
6.Refunds
If a purchase was a mistake, a duplicate, or the thing you bought is not what we described, write to us through the contact page with your payment id and we will refund it. A person reads these, and we would rather return your money than argue about it.
Refunds go back to the method you paid with, through the provider, and take however long the provider takes. Refunding a purchase ends the access it bought. We may decline where an account has plainly worked through the material and is asking after the fact, or where the account broke section 7.
For a subscription, cancelling stops the next charge; we do not usually refund a period already under way, though see the first paragraph.
7.Using it fairly
Please do not:
- Share, resell, republish, or upload our lessons, diagrams, problems or videos anywhere else, including to another course, a file share, or an AI training set.
- Share your account, or use someone else’s.
- Scrape the site, or automate your way around fair-use limits, rate limits or paywalls.
- Use the code execution or practice tools to attack anything, mine anything, or run work that has nothing to do with the problem in front of you.
- Break an assessment’s rules, impersonate another candidate, or help someone else do either.
- Post to community or feedback surfaces anything unlawful, abusive, or not yours to post.
- Probe or interfere with the site’s security, other than reporting what you find to us.
Where something is clearly deliberate we may suspend or close the account, and for a paid account that ends access without a refund. We will tell you why.
8.Who owns what
Ours. The lessons, text, diagrams, animations, problems, tests, videos and the site itself belong to ByteMonk Academy. Your purchase buys you a personal, non-transferable right to use them to learn, for as long as your access lasts. It does not transfer ownership or allow you to teach from them commercially.
What you may take with you. Code snippets from the lessons are yours to use freely, in your own work, at work, anywhere. For diagrams, animations and video stills, ask first through the contact page; the answer is usually yes, with attribution.
Yours. Your whiteboards, answers, code and messages remain yours. You give us the permission we need to store them, show them back to you, grade them, and — where you sat an assessment — report them to the organiser. We may use submissions in aggregate, or with anything identifying removed, to improve the courses and the grading. Comments, feedback and suggestions you send us we may act on freely and without owing you anything for them.
9.Automated feedback
Practice evaluations, the tutor’s answers and coding verdicts are produced by automated systems, including large language models (the privacy policy says where your work goes). They are useful and they are fallible: they misread things, they miss things, and they can be confidently wrong.
Treat them as practice feedback, not as an assessment of your ability and not as professional advice. A score here is not a prediction about any real interview, and we make no promise about any job, offer or outcome.
10.Availability and changes
We work to keep the site up but do not promise it never breaks. Maintenance, a provider’s outage, or a bug may interrupt it, and features may change, move or be withdrawn as the product develops.
If we ever have to close a course or the service while people still hold access to it, we will give reasonable notice and offer a refund proportionate to the access left — for lifetime access, judged on what you paid and how long you have had it.
11.Liability
The site is educational material, provided as it is. Beyond what these terms say, and to the extent the law allows, we do not give other warranties, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost opportunities, or data you did not keep a copy of.
Where we are liable, our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit, and nothing here takes away consumer rights you have under the law where you live.
12.Ending it
You can stop using the site whenever you like, cancel a subscription from your account page, and ask us to delete your account through the contact page. Deleting the account ends your access, including access you paid for, and we cannot restore it afterwards.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks section 7, or where we must in order to comply with the law.
13.Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service changes. The date at the top moves when we do, and a change that materially affects existing members is announced by email or on the site before it takes effect. Continuing to use ByteMonk after that means you accept the new version; if you do not, tell us and we will settle any access you have already paid for.
14.Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute — without taking away any protection or any right to complain locally that the law where you live gives you as a consumer. Before anyone goes near a court, write to us through the contact page; almost everything is settled that way.
Read alongside the privacy policy. Questions about either go through the contact page.
